My vision: Changing the world from the inside out

Everything I do in my work plays out within the context of a big-picture vision for “changing the world from the inside out.”

It’s a whole-system view that starts with a focus on our inner lives, expands into the world through the ripples of impact that inner focus enables us to create, and grows even more as those those ripples are both fueled and amplified through connection and community.

The vision plays out at three integrated levels.

  1. Inner Game: At the individual level, it’s about helping people both free the flow of their potential and “be the change” they want to see in the world. The Inner Game plays a key role in maximizing their potential to make a difference and have an impact.
  2. Impact: At an impact level, it’s about helping people channel that flow and transform it into positive impact, not just through their effort and achievement, but also through their everyday lives.
  3. Interconnection: At the level of interconnection, that impact is both energized and expanded through connection and community.

My Aliveness CODE work is focused primarily on the Inner Game and Impact levels (scroll down for more on that).

Change the world from the inside out

Helping People Free Their Music

There’s a line from a poem by Oliver Wendell Holmes that goes to the heart of the change I feel called to be a catalyst for. He wrote:

“Alas for those that never sing, but die with all their music in them.”

There is so much unacknowledged, unexpressed potential to make an impact with our lives – to be an instrument for the song life wants to play through us. And that potential is one of our world’s great untapped resources.

Too many people are living on autopilot, or overwhelmed by stress, or simply not seeing the realistic possibility of living life as an expression of that music.

I feel called, figuratively speaking, to help people free their music. Not just for the joy and meaning that will bring them, but for the difference that can make in the world.

My Current Focus: The Aliveness CODE

The Aliveness CODE is a framework I developed to help people feel less stressed, more resilient, more energized, and more in their groove. It has its roots in work I often do with stressed out career changers, exploring how to improve their here-and-now while we work towards change.

The framework builds on my coaching experience over the last 17 years, recent research in a variety of disciplines like neuroscience and psychology, and my personal experience applying the ideas and practices in my own life.

Here are a couple quotes from clients describing the impact of the Aliveness CODE work on their lives:

“I feel healthier and calmer. I have less stress in my life. More equanimity. I feel more resilient. I’m less reactive than I used to be.”

– Jennifer Whitley, Austin, TX

“I think in two words, I’m more peaceful and joyful in my days. I just feel happier overall.”

– Ellen Lende, Seattle, WA

My 2018 Goal: Entering the Corporate World

Until now, I have worked primarily with individual clients. My goal is to create a set of offerings (speaking, workshops, coaching) that I can roll out in the corporate world. Topics could include:

  • Stress management: Add sentence – proprietary Aliveness CODE
  • Building resilience
  • Navigating change
  • Finding flow
